The Warwickshire Academy: MHC

Who I am: Jenny Ireland

Why I wanted to be a Champ: I know the impact that mental ill-health can have on individuals and their loved ones. Often, struggles with mental health are brushed under the carpet, or misunderstood. I want to be part of a movement that promotes open conversations, reduces stigma, and provides support to people who need it. I am a passionate advocate for mental wellbeing, whether it's raising awareness, offering a listening ear, or educating others by reducing stigma. I believe that by championing mental health, we can help create a world where seeking help is seen as a strength, not a weakness.

Who I am: Jayne Pierotti

Why I wanted to be a Champ: I hear people say all the tin that life is never easy, yet we don’t take enough time to check-in with ourselves and each other. Training as a Mental Health Champion gives you the skills to be a listening ear in the moment, and to be able to signpost people to the right support. Being there to just listen is extremely important for me. I know it’s important to have a non-judgemental space to talk and be heard. I am excited about my Champ journey that is about to unfold.

Who I am: Berni Winterburn

Why I wanted to become a Champ: I am the Deputy SENDCo, Referrals Manager , Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead at TWA. Being a Champ allows me to support colleagues by having someone to talk to that understands the environment they work in. I want to normalise discussions around mental health – we all have stresses in life which can make us feel full. Having a space where we can talk and be listened to helps promote healthy conversations around positive mental health and destigmatise mental ill-health. I believe that promoting positive mental health is as important as promoting physical health. I want to promote that it’s good to talk.
