Warwickshire Academy’s Beth Blakey Joins GB Women’s Fire Service Rugby
The Warwickshire Academy, a school dedicated to fostering children’s social and emotional
well-being, proudly celebrates PE instructor Beth Blakey, recently selected to play for the GB
Women’s Fire Service Rugby Team. Beth’s passion for rugby and her commitment to youth
sports have inspired students and colleagues alike, aligning with Thrive Education
Partnership’s values of nurturing student growth through supportive and enriching
environments.
A seasoned rugby player currently playing for Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club, Beth brings
her athletic expertise and community spirit to The Warwickshire Academy, igniting student
enthusiasm for rugby and fitness. Starting her rugby journey at a young age, Beth initially
trained alongside boys due to there not being a girls team at the time, to eventually going on
to captain her school team and lead Old Leamingtonians to an undefeated season.
Beyond the classroom, she connects with students one-on-one, helping them set personal
goals, improve their rugby skills, and feel empowered to pursue their dreams. “Seeing
students who want to improve their rugby skills or ask for advice because they see me in my
kit or hear about my journey is truly rewarding,” Beth shares. “It shows them that no matter
where they’re starting from, they have the potential to go as far as they dream.”
Her recent selection for the GB Women’s Fire Service Rugby Team is a testament to her
skill, dedication, and commitment to community service, making her a role model in
promoting women’s sports. As The Warwickshire Academy’s first PE instructor, Beth creates
an environment where students of all backgrounds and abilities can explore physical activity,
build confidence, and experience the joy of teamwork.
The Warwickshire Academy’s ethos is integral to this supportive atmosphere, emphasising
student well-being as the foundation of Beth’s PE lessons. Her role is a key component of
the Academy’s mission to nurture both physical health and the emotional resilience and
confidence that Thrive promotes.
Beth’s impact extends beyond PE, with students and staff inspired by her enthusiasm and
dedication, offering an inclusive community that celebrates achievement and well-being
across the Academy.
